Indoor golf in Ahwatukee: what it costs and when to play

Ahwatukee sits in a strange spot for golf. There is real golf here and plenty of it, and for roughly five months a year the weather makes playing it in the afternoon a genuinely poor idea. Indoor golf fills that gap, and most people underestimate how completely it does.

This is a plain guide to what is available, what it costs, and when to go.

What does indoor golf in Ahwatukee actually cost?

At 24 Precision Golf on Chandler Boulevard, a simulator bay is $50 an hour. You can book one, two or three hours. Two hours runs $100.

The short game area and the putting green are separate and cheaper: $15 for two hours on the 3,000 sq ft indoor putting and chipping green.

A bay is priced per bay, not per person. If four of you split an hour, the arithmetic gets a lot friendlier, and there is enough time between shots that four players is genuinely sociable rather than a queue.

What is a GOLFZON simulator and why does it matter?

The bays run GOLFZON TwoVisionNX. Two things about that setup matter more than the brand name.

The first is the moving swing plate. The floor under your stance physically tilts to match the lie you have drawn — 64 positions covering up to 56,000 lies. An uphill lie is an actual uphill lie, not a picture of one. This is the single biggest difference between a real simulator bay and a launch monitor pointed at a net in someone’s garage.

The second is how the ball is read. High-speed capture at 400 frames per second reads the ball itself at impact, rather than inferring where it will go from club data alone. When the number and the shot disagree, you notice — and here they mostly agree.

The courses are rendered in Unreal Engine 5, which sounds like marketing until a ball lands short of a false front and rolls back down it.

The floor tilts. That is the part you cannot replicate at home.

When should you actually book?

Here is the part most guides miss. The facility runs 24 hours, and members get in with an account at any hour of any day.

That changes the calculus completely:

• Early morning, 5–8am. Quiet, and you are done before work. In summer this is the only pleasant time to do anything outdoors, so indoors it is uncontested.
• Lunch. There is a lunch package with an hour of play and Southern plates from Sweet Magnolia Smokehouse, from $75 for two people.
• Late evening after 9pm. The best-kept secret. Kids are down, the day is over, and nobody is competing for a bay.
• Genuinely overnight. Shift workers, insomniacs and people who simply think better at 2am. This is not a gimmick — the door opens.

Which courses can you play?

The library runs past 330 courses across the United States, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia. The names people actually book include Pebble Beach, St Andrews Old Course, Bethpage Black, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Royal Dornoch and Turnberry.

There is also a local joke worth knowing: Troon North is in the library, both the Monument and the Pinnacle. It is a real course twenty-five miles up the road, and you can play both of its layouts without leaving Chandler Boulevard.

Is it worth it if you are not a serious golfer?

Probably more than if you are. A simulator bay is a forgiving place to be bad at golf. Nobody is waiting behind you, the ball comes back, and the machine tells you what happened without anyone having to watch.

Groups, first-timers, corporate outings and families all book the same bays as the low handicaps. It is one of the few golf formats where a 6 handicap and someone who has never held a club can share an hour and both enjoy it.
