Are indoor golf memberships worth it?

Most membership pitches skip the arithmetic. This one leads with it, including the part where a membership is the wrong call.

The break-even calculation

A bay at 24 Precision Golf is $50 an hour pay-as-you-go. So the break-even for any tier is simply the monthly price divided by fifty.

These break-even points compare bay time at the standard $50 hourly rate. They do not assign a dollar value to short-game access, guests, or other included benefits. If you use fewer than three bay hours a month, hourly booking costs less than Bronze on bay time alone.

At four hours a month, standard hourly bay time costs $200. That is above Bronze’s $150 monthly price and just below Platinum’s monthly equivalent of about $208.33.

The Platinum anomaly

There is one genuinely odd thing in the pricing that is worth pointing out plainly.

Gold is $325 a month. Over twelve months that is $3,900. Platinum is $2,500 for the year — $1,400 less — and it includes everything Gold does plus the removal of booking limits entirely.

Platinum costs $1,400 a year less than Gold and does more. If you were going to choose Gold, choose Platinum.

For a full year at the listed prices, Platinum costs less than twelve Gold payments. Monthly billing may still fit a shorter or uncertain schedule better. Review the purchase and renewal terms before choosing an annual plan.

What the tiers actually differ on

Price is the obvious axis. The real differences are three others:

• Session length. Bronze is one-hour tee times. Silver adds two-hour. Gold and Platinum allow three.
• Active bookings. Bronze, Silver and Gold let you hold one reservation at a time — you play it, then you book the next. Platinum removes the limit, so you can schedule a week ahead.
• Guests. Bronze brings nobody. Silver brings one. Gold and Platinum bring three.

That “one active booking” rule is the one people underestimate. If you like knowing your week is planned, it is the single most annoying constraint on the lower tiers, and the main practical argument for Platinum beyond the money.

The thing that is not on the price list

Every tier includes something that does not show up in a break-even table: 24-hour access. Members hold an account and enter at any hour of any day.

This is worth more than it sounds. It converts golf from a thing you schedule into a thing you do when you happen to have ninety minutes. Six in the morning before work. Eleven at night. Two in the morning in July when it is finally bearable to be awake.

Every tier also includes unlimited short game and putting green use, which pay-as-you-go costs $15 for two hours.

So when is the answer no?

Be honest with yourself about frequency. A membership is the wrong purchase if:

• You play fewer than three hours a month.
• You are buying it to make yourself play more. That rarely works, and the gym industry is built on it.
• Your golf is seasonal and you are about to stop for four months.

The better move in all three cases is to book bays for a month, count the hours you actually used, and then run the division above.
